Grain Wing Battery

Part of my urban exploration series.

The Grain Wing Battery sits near the Isle of Grain on the Hoo Peninsula. Built in 1895, it’s now just a shell of decaying concrete and rebar. Anyone who knows me will know I can’t resist some decay and concrete.

You can only get to it during low tide, and even then by walking through quite a bit of mud. I luckily arrived an hour before lwo tide so had plenty of time to explore. Reviews online suggested entering the site was tricky - but a rickety ladder had helpfully been tied to the first floor to aid visitors.

Part of the reason for the trip was to find an interesting place to take my drone that wasn’t too busy. The Isle of Grain is sufficiently out of the way that there were only a handful of other people around.
